Starting a yoga practice can feel daunting, especially if you don’t have the right props. Especially for a beginner, having the right props can make all the difference in your practice and help you get the most out of each class. Here are some essential yoga props for beginners so you can set yourself up for success!

Yoga Mat
The most obvious prop is a yoga mat. A good grip is essential, so I recommend Liforme or Matify mats. They both offer plenty of cushioning and great stickiness. But if those are beyond your budget, there are plenty of cheaper options on Amazon that will do just fine. Just be sure to check the reviews to make sure it has good grip!
Yoga Blocks
Yoga blocks can be a great asset in your practice, especially as a beginner. They provide stability and support when you need it and can help with alignment. I have a pair from All Yoga that I really like but there are cheaper ones from Amazon that are just as good. I prefer foam blocks over cork because they’re lighter, but again, this is personal preference - pick what works for you!
Yoga Strap
A yoga strap is incredibly helpful during many poses - even common ones like seated forward folds and supine hamstring stretches! It can also help with more advanced poses like King Pigeon or King Dancer if you’re not yet able to grab your foot on your own. Having one of these handy will make your practice much easier!

If you're new to yoga, having the right props can make all the difference in your practice. A good yoga mat with plenty of grip is essential! Yoga blocks provide stability and support while practicing poses that feel too challenging, while a strap helps with poses like King Pigeon or King Dancer even when reaching your foot feels like more of a "future goal" :) You don't need an arsenal of props to start practicing - just these three essentials and you're ready to go! Happy practicing, yogis!
